No Sales? You’re Probably Ghosting Your Audience

Have you ever released a new product or announced a sale to your audience only to be completely underwhelmed by the response? 

All entrepreneurs have been there before. It’s a serious wake-up call and it feels like a gut punch to the ego. 

Even if you did all the research, got the surveys out there to gauge interest, constructed a beautiful product, checked off all the boxes — all of that doesn’t matter if you launched like a ghost. 

Launch ghosts put their focus on all the wrong pieces and end up with lackluster results. If your recent product or sales push launched to a symphony of crickets, you may be said launch ghost. 

Are You A Launch Ghost?

Isn’t a 40% off sale super enticing? 

This new product is amazing, why isn’t anyone buying this? ⠀

If you’re surprised by the lack of response from your sales push because the pitch was super enticing, this is the root of your problem here. 

A sales flop is fed by a lot of different contributing factors and the pitch itself is a small sliver of it. The mistake you’ve made lies is in your launch. 

I saw a lot of this on Black Friday and Cyber Monday last year, where brands I haven’t heard from in months sent out 2–3 emails about their sale of the year.⠀

Brands like these float into people’s inboxes like a ghost with a temporary haunt about a sale and then disappear as quickly as they appeared. ⠀

This the response these brands expect to get: Yes! I’m so excited, they’re having a sale, I’m going to buy right now! ⠀

But here’s the reality: Who is this again? Oh, it’s that brand. Ok, whatever. ⠀

Why Ghost Launches Don’t Work

Consumers today are bombarded with content and engage with multiple brands at once. It’s silly to think that with today’s high volume of content consumption, people will remember who you are after months of silence. ⠀⠀

If your brand isn’t continuously reminding its audience of who you are, what you’re selling, and nurturing them towards a sale, they aren’t excited when you send an email out of nowhere. ⠀

They’re instead, trying to figure out who you even are. ⠀⠀

A shopper who’s in the mindset of identifying who you are is nowhere near the mindset of being excited about buying your product. ⠀

If you want to have successful product releases or sale launches, drop the ghost act and show up more. 

Show up in people’s inboxes on a weekly basis, stay engaged, and cultivate a desire for your product. ⠀

If you have a product launch or sale coming up, spend 1–2 months nurturing your audience and work yourself up towards the ask. 

And once you’ve completed your ask, keep nurturing your audience in preparation for the next time you have a launch or sale. 

If the question just popped into your head of, but when do I take a break? The honest truth is, there are ebbs and flows of intensity, but there’s never really a break. 

That’s the commitment that a business needs to have if it wants to sustain recurring revenue and grow it.
